Alongside Peridot, the Egyptians called topaz the “gem of the sun." They believed that Topaz was colored by the golden glow of the Sun God Ra and was a powerful protector from harm. The Romans associated Topaz with their Sun God and felt this gem could dispel enchantment and improve eyesight. The Ancient Greeks thought that Topaz could increase strength and render one invisible in times of danger. During the Middle Ages, people believed that topaz have the power to strengthen the mind. Topaz is believed to protect its wearer from greed. Topaz is the traditional birthstone for those born in the month of November. Topaz is used for strength. It is Considered a warming gem. In the Middle Ages it was thought that Topaz could cure the plague. Some say that Topaz helps with eye problems if you dip the stone in wine and rub the eyelids with it before going to bed.
