Composed of Silicon Dioxide. Picture Jasper is a sedimentary rock called a sandstone, the coloring coming from Iron Oxides that have migrated through the stone in interesting shapes and forms. A famous locale known for providing some of the most beautiful Picture Jasper can be found in Biggs, Oregon. Rarely blue, then called "Biggs Blue". Picture jasper was thought to drive away evil spirits and protect against snake and spider bites. It is said to provide protection, and to have a calming effect, giving stability and security. Jasper is also said to balance one's physical, emotional and intellectual states.
